Senior Veritas NetBackup Engineer (m/w)

We are looking for experienced and motivated Senior Veritas NetBackup Engineer for our client in Prague.

We are looking for experienced and motivated Senior Veritas NetBackup Engineer for our client in Prague. You will be working on global projects as a part of the Services team. This could be fulltime employment or opportunities for IT freelancers as well.

Role overview

• To be a primary technical interface working with all Server Support and Database teams in identifying, troubleshooting, and helping resolve server backup and restoration issues
• Engineering and subject matter expertise in the area of NetBackup environments covering both technical engineering and BAU support activities
• Providing senior-level technical support for Backup tools and their related infrastructure (VTLs, physical tape libraries, proxy servers, storage pools or other de-duplication devices)
• Supporting design, documentation and deployment of new NetBackup environments (including server hardware, OS, NBU backup product configuration or NBU Appliances or Data Domains) to target host and replication sites; replication sites can also include public cloud providers such as, but not limited to, AWS
• Performing L4 support where needed with such problems as missed and/or failed backups or backup infrastructure failures
• Setting up deduplication for backup appliances between target and replication data centers
• Developing technical diagrams comprising of  network connectivity to geographically dispersed data centers; Diagrams include details such as switches, ILOs, IP and vLan configuration;  storage pool sizing and configuration as well as target replication device sizing and configuration (e.g., Data Domains, NetBackup appliances or other storage targets)
• Supporting the service delivery organization to perform recoveries of files and or directories as requested from end users through the Ticketing system (Remedy On Demand and ServiceNow)
• Building qualification documentation as well as configuring NetBackup Master / Media servers and Deploying and configuring NetBackup appliances and Dell/EMC Data Domains
• Working with technical writers to finalize installation and other site specific documentation

Requirements

• Experienced Backup Engineer with strong technical background and international experience
• 6 years’ experience in Veritas NetBackup in a large IT organization as well as relevant experience with Veritas BackupExec versions 2006 through 2014
• Veritas (Symantec) NetBackup versions 5.0GA through 7.7.x is mandatory in physical and virtual environments
• Knowledge of Commvault and IBM Spectrum Protect (TSM) will be desirable
• Good understanding of all Backup administration tasks (installs, patching, system recovery, monitoring, performance/capacity reporting/analysis, network configuration, name resolution, file sharing, file system, disk management, security, troubleshooting OS & application issues – performance, events, logs)
• Experience with data protection process in public cloud as well as knowledge of CommVault on-prem and in the cloud (i.e., AWS)
• Solid understanding of backup area networks and backup data replication across wide area networks to geographically dispersed data centers
• Administration of Backup Disk De-duplication Appliances
• Systems Admin for Veritas Data Protection Tools NetBackup; BackupExec
• Knowledge of NetBackup using Data Domains as storage target as well as VMWare on converged and hyper-converged platforms
• Wide range of systems infrastructure design and implementation experience, including Wintel, UNIX and Storage (IP/FC SAN) systems. 
• Solid understanding and ability to work with: Windows Server (2003 – 2012), IBM Unix, AIX, RedHat Linux, Solaris, HP-UX
• Understanding of hardware monitoring concepts using HP-OMI
• Understanding of Dell/EMC Backup Reporting and Monitoring Tool (Data Protection Advisor)
• Experience administering IBM tape libraries from AIX, HP and NBU highly desirable
• Solid understanding of networking, trace analysis, concepts like load balancing, fault tolerance, firewalls and other networking devices
• Strong communication and technical skills working collaboratively in a global team environment, knowledge of ITIL principles
• Fluency (oral and written) in English
• Criminal record is required as part of the background check prior to joining
